Conquering Kulve Taroth: A Hunter’s Guide to Riches (and Broken Horns)
You have heard of Kulve Taroth. She is an Elder Dragon with a magnificent, gold-plated form. She hoards a mountain of treasure. This is not just a monster hunt. It is a Siege, where you don’t slay the beast. Instead, you dismantle her defenses to claim your share of the rewards. It’s a treasure hunt with powerful weapons.
Understanding the Kulve Taroth Siege: Break Those Horns!
Forget about carving materials. The Kulve Taroth Siege has a different goal. Your main task is to break her majestic horns before she decides to leave. You measure success by the number of horns shattered, not hunts completed. Breaking those horns will mark your victory and earn you rewards.
Don’t charge in to deliver a fatal blow. You can’t actually kill Kulve Taroth in this Siege. Think of it like a point system. You gain points by achieving objectives during the fight: break parts, inflict damage, and make her life difficult. More points equal better rewards, like earning high-value tickets instead of cheap toys.
Want to see the rainbow item drops? You need to push her into her “furied” state. To do this, you must repeatedly break her parts. Consider her armor as onion layers to peel back. When she is downed, focus on her chest. Attacking her chest while she is grounded will trigger her enraged transformation, leading to more explosions and molten gold.
Here’s a tip: tenderize her parts. Soften her up by slamming her against a wall, if you can. Tenderizing her hide makes her parts more vulnerable, breaking faster than a twig under a Rathalos. If you fail to deal enough damage quickly, she may decide to escape. Don’t let her ghost you; break those horns!
Fun fact: Kulve Taroth’s Japanese name is “Mamu Tarot.” Share this tidbit with your hunting party while you break horns.
Exploiting Kulve Taroth’s Weaknesses: Thunder and Ice are Your Friends
Every monster has weaknesses, and Kulve Taroth has hers. Understanding her elemental weaknesses is key to maximizing damage and ending her reign. While she wears her gold mantle, Thunder is your main element. This disrupts her defense with an electrical surge.
Once Kulve Taroth sheds her gold plating, Ice becomes your best option. She goes from resistant to cold to utterly vulnerable. This elemental shift changes your strategy. Switching to Ice weapons after she loses her gold is not just advised; it is necessary for efficiency.
When she is gold-plated, she is weakest to Thunder, followed by Dragon element. She has resistance against Ice due to her armor acting as an insulator. The weakest spot on her gold-plated form is the plating on her head. Target that, hunter! If you are a gunner, focus on her forelegs to deal damage through the gold.
Once she loses her armor, it changes everything. An unarmored Kulve Taroth is weak to Ice and resistant to Thunder and Fire. Almost anywhere you hit will inflict significant damage. For optimal effectiveness, aim for her tail coat—it acts like a massive exposed nerve ending. Use Ice weapons to exploit this weakness.
Kjarr vs. Taroth Weapons: A Golden Dilemma
The Kulve Taroth Siege offers weapon rewards: Kjarr and Taroth weapons. These weapons hold unique properties and strong stats. Choosing between them can confuse hunters, so let’s look at the Light Bowguns (LBGs) for example.
Consider Taroth LBG versus Kjarr LBG. The Taroth LBG boasts a single Level 3 decoration slot. This adds flexibility for customization, allowing strong upgrades. The Kjarr LBG only offers a Level 1 slot, limiting options. The Taroth LBG grants a +20 Defensive bonus for a bit of extra survivability. In contrast, the Kjarr LBG has 15% Affinity, raising critical hit chance for higher damage output.
So, which is better? It often depends on personal preference and builds. Many hunters find the 15% Affinity on the Kjarr LBG far more impactful than Taroth’s Level 3 slot and +20 Defense. Critical hits reign supreme in Monster Hunter World, and Affinity can elevate damage output. In this LBG showdown, Kjarr often wins for damage-focused hunters. But both weapon lines can be powerful, and the best choice depends on your needs.
Fury of El Dorado: Entering the Kulve Taroth Arena
Are you ready to face Kulve Taroth? Your quest is called “Fury of El Dorado.” Access this quest from the Gathering Hub. Why that location? Initially, Kulve Taroth Siege was a large multiplayer event—a raid boss encounter in Monster Hunter style. It’s still intended for multiplayer; however, don’t be deterred as a solo hunter. With Master Rank gear, you can take on Kulve Taroth alone, though it can be challenging.
To enrage Kulve Taroth and unlock her Arch-Tempered form for greater rewards, break her armor early in the Siege. You must do this by Area 3. Shattering enough of her gold by Area 3 allows her to move to Area 4, where strategy becomes crucial.
In Area 4, first put Kulve Taroth to sleep. Sleep bombing is effective here. Once asleep, unleash bombs on her horns for major damage during this opportunity. After the bombing run, she will enrage, marking the start of the Arch-Tempered challenge. Prepare for increased difficulty and greater rewards.
Rewards: Carbs and Glittering Goodies
Let’s discuss the loot because that motivates most hunters. As noted earlier, accumulating points during the Siege leads to better rewards. Maximize your points by breaking parts and achieving objectives throughout your hunt.
Beyond regular reward boxes, you gain additional rewards from horn breaks. You can get up to seven extra “carbs” (reward carvings) from breaking her horns. Three come from breaking the gold plating—chipping her initial defenses. The remaining four come from fully breaking the horns. This culmination is crucial for unlocking valuable rewards. So concentrate on those horns, hunter. Break them and enjoy the fruits of your victory.
