Top 5 Classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2: A Comprehensive Tier List

Top 5 Classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2: A Comprehensive Tier List

  • S-tier:
    • Thief: The Thief is hands down the best vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 when it comes to damage-dealing capabilities and survivability quirks. It excels at defense and offense, and its ability to dodge almost every attack with Formless Feint—a passive whose only downside is that it continually drains stamina—is unparalleled. Its damage output is high and consistent, owing to its capability to reach and flurry weak points. Key skills include Skull Splitter, which causes the Thief to spin and shred everything in front of it.
    • Sorcerer: The Sorcerer vocation is renowned for its unparalleled levels of burst damage. Its skill Augural Flare is fantastic for early game damage, while spells like Meteoron offer impressive burst damage later. However, it is considered the squishiest vocation. It has near-unrivaled potential when taking out innumerable hostiles from afar. The spell High Levin, combined with Quickspell, is a key ability.
  • A-tier:
    • Magick Archer: The Magick Archer can fire shots that seek out targets, with its Martyr’s Bolt ultimate technique being its primary claim to A-tier status. It features powerful ranged attacks with magical abilities, allowing it to deal massive damage while maintaining distance from threats.
    • Mystic Spearhand: Mystic Spearhand is considered the best all-around vocation due to a combination of several skills that provide great mobility, high attack, and impenetrable defense. It offers a mix of close and long-range attacks and has high defense with shields. Notable skill: Mirour Vesture—a standard skill that substantially boosts survivability.
    • Warfarer: The Warfarer is a surprisingly good vocation despite coming much too late in the campaign. It allows for equipping any type of armor and weapon, free from class restrictions.
  • B-tier:
    • Mage: The Mage contains healing and protective spells like Anodyne and High Palladium, but is surprisingly positioned lower in tier lists.
    • Warrior: The Warrior remains one of the best vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as a no-nonsense melee DPS class. Abilities such as Roar can draw enemy aggro, while hard-hitting moves like Arc of Might, Mountain Breaker, and Windstorm Slash inflict high damage.
  • C-tier:
    • Fighter: The Fighter isn’t really a “bad” vocation; it can draw enemy attacks via Shield Summons and defend through Impeccable Guard or perfect parries with Deflect/True Deflect.
    • Archer: The Archer can hold its own in combat but doesn’t consistently translate to high damage output later in the campaign.
  • Additional Notes:
    • According to most Dragon’s Dogma 2 tier lists, the ‘Thief’ class is generally considered the best overall, often placed in the S-tier due to its high damage output, survivability, and ability to exploit weak points effectively.
    • Other top contenders include ‘Mystic Spearhand’ for its balanced offensive and defensive capabilities, and ‘Magick Archer’ for strong ranged attacks.

Beginner’s Guide: Best Starting Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The best starting class in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Thief, closely followed by Fighter.

While thieves are typically the more ‘advanced’ option in RPGs, the Thief is very beginner-friendly. It offers an excellent dodge for escaping danger, as well as the Subtlety Augment that makes monsters less likely to attack you.

Key points about the Thief class include:

  • High mobility and agility.
  • Ability to deal significant burst damage while quickly dodging attacks.
  • A dedicated dodge button for quick evasive maneuvers and repositioning.
  • Dual-wielding capabilities that allow for rapid attacks in close-quarters combat.

Moreover, the Thief’s ability Ensnare allows you to hurl a rope at foes and yank them towards you, which is particularly useful against medium-sized enemies like goblins, bandits, and harpies.

On the other hand, the Fighter class comes in as a close second due to its defensive utility. The Fighter requires players to engage more actively in combat. If you prefer a more active role and enjoy a good frame-perfect parry, then Fighter would be the better choice.

However, for players who want a simpler approach to combat, the Thief offers a more forgiving experience. The Fighter has block abilities, while the Archer relies on a Steady Shot. In contrast, Thieves can effectively evade attacks with their dodge, enhancing their survivability.

In summary, the Thief class is generally considered the best starting class, particularly for beginners who desire a fast-paced playstyle. The Archer ranks just behind the Thief due to its range capability, but the Thief remains the top choice for early game.

Unlocking Vocations: How to Access All Classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Best Classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Known officially as vocations, these archetypes define how your character plays as you explore Capcom’s expansive open world, slaying griffins and goblins galore. There are ten vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, with four starting vocations and six advanced vocations. Here is a full list of Dragon’s Dogma 2 vocations:

  • Fighter
  • Archer
  • Thief
  • Mage
  • Warrior
  • Sorcerer
  • Magick Archer
  • Mystic Spearhand
  • Trickster
  • Warfarer

When it comes to the best starting class, the Thief is hands down the top choice, closely followed by Fighter. The Thief excels in damage-dealing capabilities and survivability quirks. For DPS, the Thief has access to Skull Splitter, allowing it to spin and shred everything in front.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Vocation Tier List

While you can make any vocation work in Dragon’s Dogma 2 with the right party composition, certain classes excel when controlled directly. We’ve played each vocation and created a handy tier list for your reference:

  • S Tier: Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Thief
  • A Tier: Archer, Fighter, Warrior, Sorcerer, Warfarer
  • B Tier: Mage, Trickster

Best Pawn Builds: Which Class Works Best for Your Companion?

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a balanced party can deal with a lot. There is no clear ‘best pawn’ as each vocation can fit well into a party. However, if you’re unsure of what to choose, you can never go wrong with having a Mage Pawn.

Mage Pawns serve as health dispensers, providing healing through skills like Argent Succor and Fire Affinity. Additionally, the Maister Skill Celestial Paean is recommended for vocations that can spam skills, allowing for greater effectiveness in battle.

Fighter Pawns are also a great choice for players preferring vocations that avoid aggro, such as Sorcerers. They can draw attention from monsters while dealing damage themselves. It is essential to utilize the Shield Drum skill to pull aggro, while skills like Hindsight Sweep and Riotous Fury can enhance damage output. Their Augments should focus on increasing their ability to hold aggro and support other party members.

Sorcerer Pawns excel in delivering high bursts of damage. They can benefit from spell synchronization with an Arisen Sorcerer. Utilizing skills like Levin, Spellhold, and the powerful Meteoron for massive burst damage is essential. Building a Sorcerer Pawn similarly to your own can enhance spell-casting speed when paired, making them a strategic choice for any party composition.

Specifically, a Fighter is ideal for Arisen that require distance and casting, primarily Sorcerers, as Dragon’s Maw draws more aggro than anything a Warrior does. For a spell-syncing party, Fighter is extremely effective.

When considering the best skills for Fighter Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon’s Maw should be prioritized. Your ideal fighter will engage in combat and spam Dragon’s Maw until all enemies are defeated. Notably, Pawns excel at perfect blocking, thus not equipping shield skills can facilitate this ability.

Furthermore, having a well-built Fighter Pawn or Warrior can be a game changer. Casting has likely been made easier in DD2, suggesting that my experience from DD1 may not fully apply. Nevertheless, a good Fighter can effectively distract enemies and can stun larger foes as well.

From personal testing, I found success with a Strider equipped only with Brain Splitter and Fivefold Flurry. Similarly, a Ranger with only Tenfold (without a dagger equipped) performed well. It is beneficial to have all three Pawns focused on offense to clear mobs quickly before taking damage.

Community Insights: What Reddit Says About the Best Class in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The best Dragon’s Dogma 2 Vocations are as follows:

  • S Tier:
    • Magick Archer
    • Warfarer
  • A Tier:
    • Mystic Spearhand
    • Sorcerer
    • Warrior
  • B Tier:
    • Fighter
    • Archer
    • Mage
  • C Tier:
    • Thief
    • Trickster

Firstly, the Magick Archer is considered the strongest vocation due to its damage, support, and one-shot boss potential. It can utilize Martyr’s Bolt to amplify damage, allowing it to one-shot bosses. Secondly, the Warfarer vocation allows for a combination of any two vocations, enhancing versatility.

The Mystic Spearhand is noted for its skill, Mirour Vesture, which nullifies all enemy attacks. By reactivating this skill while active, players can extend its duration, enabling continuous attacking without damage. On the other hand, the Thief vocation is recommended for its Biting Wind skill, which helps players automatically dodge attacks while maintaining focus on dealing damage and stealing items from targets.

For Pawns, the best Vocations are Mage and Warrior. The Mage can access essential healing skills, while a Pawn with a Warrior vocation can take on the frontline, dealing damage and absorbing enemy attacks.

Overall, both Thief and Magick Archer are considered to be the strongest, providing an easy gameplay experience. However, some players find the Fighter to be the most versatile and enjoyable, especially with Master Skills.

Players will likely test and level up all classes. Additionally, Archers can be effective if managed properly, with the Spiral Arrow noted as a useful option against formidable enemies.

Lastly, personal experiences indicate that Pawns excel in different roles. For example, a Pawn named Jack performs excellently as a Warrior, but also does well as a Mage, although his performance as an Archer is less favorable.

Ultimate Skills: How Mastery Influences Class Effectiveness in Dragon’s Dogma 2

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Maisters are experts in their fields and can teach incredible skills associated with their respective vocations. Each maister can teach a unique ultimate ability that significantly influences the effectiveness of the class you are playing.

Throughout the game, players can swap between up to 10 different vocations. Each vocation offers different strengths to complement the party. Moreover, the title provides a total of 10 different classes to carry out your adventure, some of which are specialized. Through the ultimate skills, characters can better fulfill their roles in a party, making mastery of these skills essential for class effectiveness.

There are 12 ultimate abilities you can learn from Maisters. However, some classes still need to be unlocked as you progress through the campaign. Ultimate abilities can truly change the way you play a class, either due to the devastating damage they deal or additional functions they present.

For example, Celestial Paean is one of the best abilities from Maisters. Once activated, it allows a character to spam attacks without worrying about stamina. This is complemented by faster stamina regeneration, making it easier to recast even ultimates that quickly drain stamina. Furthermore, the damage reduction buff enhances its utility.

Another notable skill is Martyr’s Bolt, which can easily one-shot some bosses. This ability temporarily lowers your maximum HP and can even lead to your character’s death while charging. Nevertheless, upon release, it unleashes countless projectiles that deal an obscene amount of damage in a short time. While risky due to the loss mechanic, it is definitely worth using against tougher monsters.

Additionally, Formless Feint is a compelling reason to consider the Thief vocation as a strong starting choice. This ability functions as an auto-dodge, allowing players to avoid all damage for several seconds as long as enough stamina remains.

To learn these ultimate abilities, players must gain the approval of powerful NPC Maisters found throughout the game. This requirement adds depth to the gameplay by encouraging players to engage with these masters of their craft.

Ultimately, mastering skills is essential in Dragon’s Dogma 2. As players enhance their characters’ effectiveness in battle, they will find that the ultimate abilities play a crucial role in the overall gameplay experience.
