Comparing Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition and Remix: What’s Different?
For a complete list of the differences between the “Remix” and original version of ‘Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition’, please see here. Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and its Remix version not only had additions of content, but there were also minor differences between both the original and Remix versions.
- New Vehicles: 24 new vehicles were added to the game, including:
- 1966 Cadillac Coupe de Ville
- 1970 Cadillac El Dorado
- 2005 Cadillac XLR
- Various other notable cars and motorcycles
- City Transport Changes: In Career mode, City Transport now takes you nearer to the garage instead of being closer to the city movers. In Quick Race, it now brings you closer to the garage rather than a fixed spot in the city. Additionally, taking a City Transport in Arcade Cruise, as well as test driving a car/bike that is not owned, now starts near the garage.
- Loading Screens: Tournaments have unique loading screens in the REMIX version, showcasing the prize vehicle. The coloring of most of the UI was changed from blue and gold to red, silver, and black.
- Game Features: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix includes all content from the original game, with new additions layered on top. This version introduces the city of Tokyo, additional custom cars, and extra tunes for the soundtrack. It features two-dozen new cars, 25 new songs, and an additional mode, making it a significant upgrade over the original release.
- Overall Game Comparison: The remix version has way more to offer than the regular DUB game. It includes a whole new map (Tokyo), more cars, more songs, and enhanced customization. Essentially, it’s a huge DLC released in 2006.
- PSP Version Limitations: The PSP version lacks damage models for every vehicle. It also lacks Pearlescent and Color Shift paint jobs. Certain car prices were changed; however, selling the prize Cien and ME Four-Twelve nets 80% of the original PS2/Xbox price.
- Loading Screen Music: The Xbox version supports 16:9 widescreen alongside 480p. Notably, loading screen music is only played in the PlayStation 2 version, while the Xbox’s loading screen is the same as that of the PlayStation 2, but without any music during load times.
- Cut Paint Jobs: Certain paint jobs were cut from the game but can be enabled through memory editing. For instance, there is a paint job titled ‘Enamel’ listed that does not exist within the game customization options.
- Game Update Release: In March 2006, an updated version of the game was released titled Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix, featuring new vehicles, races, music, and an additional mode. The final image was made into a proper PS2 DVD-9 ISO, and the size of the patch was reduced.
Why Can’t You Play Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition on PS5?
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition cannot be played on the PS5 due to the following reasons:
- Unfortunately, there has never been support for these games on the new console.
- It is extremely unlikely that there ever will be.
- You will have to pick up an original Xbox to play these.
- The backwards compatibility program ended in 2021. Anything that wasn’t made compatible by that time won’t be.
- The list of PS5 backwards compatible games isn’t comprehensive. This implies that not all older titles, including Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition, are supported.
While owning a PS5 allows for playing a significant number of older games through backwards compatibility, mostly PS4 titles, the absence of support for Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition remains a point of concern.
There is a call to Rockstar Games to remaster and/or update Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition to be backwards compatible or to remaster and re-release the game.
