Felyne Food Skills: Your Secret Weapon in Monster Hunter World (and Why Felyne Insurance is Clutch)

You’re diving into Monster Hunter World. Great choice. But are you truly prepared? Beyond the good armor and sharp blade lies a culinary secret: Felyne Food Skills. They enhance your hunting experience, served with deliciousness (we hope).

Decoding the Felyne Skill Menu: A Hunter’s Guide to Canteen Cat-titude

Let’s explore vital Felyne skills at the canteen. They help you thrive in your hunt.

Felyne Insurance: Your “Oops, I Carted” Buffer

Let’s discuss the main attraction: Felyne Insurance. This skill serves as your safety net against monster attacks.

  • What it does: Felyne Insurance increases your chances to negate a faint during quests. It’s like telling the monster, “Nice try,” when it sends you flying.
  • Stacking Power: Pair it with Felyne Safeguard to enhance its effectiveness.

Picture this: you and a friend both cart once but have zero faints remaining. That’s the beauty of stacking these skills. “And you’ll see that even though we carted, we still have zero out of three faints,” as a wise hunter asserted.

Felyne Safeguard: The Double-Down on Not Carting

Now, let’s shine a light on Felyne Safeguard.

  • How it works: Like Insurance, Safeguard works to prevent faints. It provides an extra buffer, easing those near misses.
  • Unlocking the Secret Recipe: To access this skill, indulge in a custom meal with six specific “preparation” drinks. These drinks require you to unlock them, especially “Snow white,” only found in special gathering nodes.

And remember, Safeguard and Insurance stack, greatly increasing your survival chances during hunts.

Felyne Weakener: Turning Apex Predators into Playthings (Almost)

Wish monsters were weaker? Meet Felyne Weakener.

  • What it does: This skill subtly reduces monster health. You’ll rarely face tough beasts, making hunts easier.

Felyne Bombardier: Explosions? Yes, Please!

If you enjoy kabooms, Felyne Bombardier is your go-to.

  • How to get it: To unlock it, focus on “Artillery” ingredients in the canteen. It’s the second skill in that column, so consume four artillery-boosting ingredients to trigger Bombardier. Knowledge is power!

Felyne Moxie: That “Nope, Not Today, Death” Skill

Felyne Moxie suits hunters who walk the edge of danger.

  • How to get it (ingredients): Moxie needs six “Blue” (Resilience) ingredients. Choose any combination, just ensure there are six.

Felyne Powered-Up: Palico Power Hour!

Don’t ignore your Placo companions! Felyne Powered-Up boosts their combat skills.

  • What it does: This skill enhances Fight-type Palicoes. When active, your Palico will increase support moves and gear for 35 seconds. Offensive moves get a 10% boost, and healing moves are 10% better.

Felyne Carver & Felyne Lucky Cat: For the Resourceful Hunter

For those who loot effectively, we present: Felyne Carver and Felyne Lucky Cat.

  • How to get them: Unlock all 12 drink ingredients to access these skills. Create custom meals to keep them handy. Felyne Carver (Hi) needs six green drinks; Felyne Lucky Cat needs six golden drinks.

Felyne Acrobat: Stylish Recoveries FTW

Felyne Acrobat is about style and avoiding crashes during combat.

  • What it does: Instead of falling dramatically after a hit, your hunter slides and recovers swiftly. Keep your hunting style intact!

Felyne Booster: A Quick Shot of Power

Need a quick boost? Felyne Booster is your answer.

  • What it does: This skill grants a temporary attack and defense boost at quest start. It’s a pre-hunt power-up, surprising the monster.

Felyne Tailor: Sharpening Speed on Steroids

If you love weapon maintenance, Felyne Tailor is essential.

  • Stacking with Tool Specialist: Felyne Tailor stacks additively with skills like Tool Specialist. This allows for faster sharpening and tool maintenance.

Felyne Heroics: Desperate Measures, Deliciously Delivered

Felyne Heroics inspire those who face danger for a damage boost.

  • Stacking with Heroics (Skill): Felyne Heroics does not stack with regular Heroics. Combine them won’t boost your damage further; they remain at a 35% increase.

Palicoes vs. Felynes: Is There a Difference?

Palicoes and Felynes refer to the same creatures. “Palico” is simply the name for Felynes in service to hunters. They are not just cute; they excel in various support roles and are capable hunters themselves.

Canteen Cuisine: Mastering the Mealtime Mechanics

The canteen system opens up these Felyne skills.

Custom Platters: Your Culinary Canvas

The Custom Platter lets you create meals from available ingredients. There are 30 meats, fish, vegetables, and 24 drinks (12 from base game and 12 from Iceborne). Start with two ingredients and reach a maximum of six as you progress.

  • Ingredient Effects: The basics to remember:
    • Meat: Improves attack.
    • Fish: Strengthens defense.
    • Vegetables: Boosts elemental resistances.

Daily Food Skills & Best Meal Choices

If invested in particular Felyne skills, other slots fill with daily food skills. For a solid meal, opt for the Chef’s Choice Platter. It’s a reliable special.

option for any quest boosts health and stamina. It raises attack, defense, and resistances. This is the well-rounded hunter’s breakfast of champions.

Gourmet Vouchers: Fueling Your Foodie Felyne Dreams

Need Gourmet Vouchers? The Steamworks at Output x10 is your best choice. Steamworks fun can net you hundreds of vouchers. Fuel your Felyne food dreams!

Monster Hunter World Mechanics: Upsurges and Auto-Crafting

A quick look at general MHW mechanics:

  • Upsurges: Events create new nodes for gathering points. “Flourishing” ups respawn rates of nodes. When ingredient hunting, you need specific upsurges for rare nodes.
  • Auto-crafting: For resource-gatherers, auto-crafting is helpful. The game crafts potions as you collect resources.

Monster Mayhem: Alatreon, Barrel Felynes, and Gajau

Let’s discuss monsters, especially those connected to Felyne food adventures.

Alatreon: Elemental Weakness 101 (and Escaton Judgement Survival)

Facing Alatreon? Elemental damage matters. Its weaknesses shift with its active state (Fire, Dragon, or Ice). In Ice Active mode, it’s immune to Ice. It’s weak to Fire. In Dragon Active, Dragon is best. For more info on Alatreon’s weaknesses, check this guide.

Also, there’s Escaton Judgement, Alatreon’s devastating attack. You must deal enough elemental damage to activate a knockdown animation. This weakens the attack. Then, pop two Astera Jerky to be safe. Escaton Judgement happens every 6-7 minutes or sooner if you have high DPS. The countdown starts in dragon mode.

Fun fact: Alatreon’s Japanese name, “アルバトリオン” (Arubatorion), combines Italian words for “dawn” (alba) and “triumph” (trionfo). It represents both doom and victory.

In the quest “Dawn’s Triumph,” Alatreon’s HP drops to one-fifth of its usual 50k HP. Lore states it got hurt by Fatalis before your fight. What a rough day for it before you arrive.

Barrel Felynes: Explosive Encounters

Barrel Felynes love bombs in Monster Hunter Stories 2. Find them in Pomore Garden and Terga Volcano Base. How to beat them? Use Barrel Bombs. Alternatively, use Gravios Spreading Beam or Black Gravios’ Heat Beam. For more tips, visit IGN’s guide.

Gajau and Grand Gajau Whiskers

Need a Grand Gajau Whisker? Hunt Gajau during High Rank quests in the Wildspire Waste or Ancient Forest. Carve them or get whiskers through quests. Focus on High Rank investigations for Gajau. Ensure you are in High Rank quests.

Other Monster Hunter Odds and Ends

A few more Monster Hunter elements for your knowledge:

  • Avarice: A skill combining Great Luck and Capture Expert. At +20 Fate, you always achieve max quest rewards.
  • Dragonblight: Annoying status that nullifies elemental and ailment effects of your weapons.
  • Torch: Not just for light! It attracts Bnahabras and repels carnivores (like Jaggi). Swing it at small monsters to force them to flee.
  • Tsukino Amiibo: If you have this amiibo from Stories 2, it unlocks special armor in that game.

Bonus Knowledge: Deworming? Wait, What?

This may be unexpected, but let’s touch on… deworming. Yes, like for cattle. There’s a connection with “Safe-Guard,” which may ring a bell.

Safe-Guard (Fenbendazole): Parasite Puncher

Safe-Guard, or fenbendazole, is an animal dewormer. It disrupts parasite energy production and affects their cell division. It mostly targets beta-tubulin in parasites and leaves pet cells safe. It’s effective against many internal parasites.

Ivermectin & Deworming Practices

Ivermectin is another type of dewormer. Interestingly, Safe-Guard and ivermectin work well together. Using different classes of dewormers is effective in preventing resistance. A common protocol is three days of Safe-Guard, then ivermectin on day four. Deworming frequency differs by animal age.

Deworming methods include injectables and pour-ons. Injectables target internal parasites better while pour-ons deal with lice. Injectables need more handling but are effective internally. Pour-ons are easy to apply but might not work as well internally.

Signs of worm infestation include pale mucous membranes, pot belly, diarrhea, and general unwellness in cattle. Even dewormers can have toxicity risks if overdosed. Acute toxicity may lead to salivation, trembling, wobbliness, and worse.

This may seem off-topic, but perhaps the “insurance” aspect of Felyne Insurance led to a tangential thought. Regardless, now you have Felyne food skill knowledge AND cattle deworming basics. Go forth, hunters! May your meals be buffed and your hunts cart-free!
