Minecraft Capes: Your Ultimate Guide to Show Off in Style
In Minecraft, surviving is just one part of the fun. It’s also about style. Nothing screams ‘fabulous’ like a cape flowing behind you as you fly. Capes symbolize status, showing your dedication, event attendance, or luck.
Ready to adorn your character with a cape? Let’s dig into Minecraft capes. We’ll detail how to acquire these sought-after items from easy-to-get to extremely rare. Get ready to learn what it takes to become a cape expert.
Decoding Cape Availability: Official vs. Modded
First, let’s discuss how to obtain a cape in Minecraft. Mojang, the game’s creators, distributes capes at special events or with specific skin packs. Think of them as special gifts for loyal players or early adopters.
If you’re playing Java Edition and feeling adventurous, mods like OptiFine allow you to use custom capes. However, modded capes are only visible to players using the same mod. You may look like a superhero to yourself, but others might only see you.
For players on both Java and Bedrock editions, remember: capes do not cross between them. Java capes stay in Java; Bedrock capes remain in Bedrock. Essentially, you have separate closets for different dimensions.
The Coveted Capes: A Deep Dive
Now, let’s explore specific capes. Some are still obtainable, while others are ancient artifacts, but all have rich Minecraft history.
Migrator Cape: The Mark of a Veteran
If you bought Minecraft when it still used a Mojang account, you might qualify for the Migrator cape! This cape honors players who transferred their old accounts to Microsoft accounts before December 1, 2020.
Good news: you can still get this cape if you meet the criteria and have not migrated yet. Just transfer your Mojang account to a Microsoft account, and voila, you’ll receive the Migrator cape in Java Edition. Unfortunately, this cape is exclusive to Java players.
Vanilla Cape: Early Adopter Coolness
The Vanilla cape rewards early adopters. This beautiful cape was given to players with both Java and Bedrock editions on the same Microsoft account before June 6, 2022. It signifies that you experienced the entire game before the editions merged.
If you were an early adopter and met requirements, the Vanilla cape should appear automatically in your Dressing Room for both versions. Consider it a trophy for being ahead of the pack.
Minecon Capes: The OG Collectibles
Minecon capes are the granddaddies of Minecraft capes. They were awarded to attendees of Minecon, the official Minecraft convention, before 2017. Can you imagine getting a cape just by showing up online in 2011? Those were simple times.
Some Minecon capes could be bought without attending. Mojang quickly fixed this loophole, making other capes exclusive to attendees only. By May 12, 2020, all unused Minecon cape links were disabled. So, if you see someone with a Minecon cape, admire the true Minecraft veteran.
The players with the most Minecon capes are Jessica and AntVenom. They have all original capes and freebies, capturing the completionist spirit!
Experience Cape: For the Adventurous Souls
The Experience cape is for those who love real-life Minecraft quests. By buying a ticket and attending the “Villager Rescue” Minecraft Experience, you could get this exclusive cape. Think of it as a souvenir from your adventures.
After your Minecraft journey, you’d receive an email with a code for your cape. A nice way to showcase your offline adventures to friends online.
15th Anniversary Capes: Celebrating a Milestone
Minecraft celebrated its 15th anniversary, giving away three new capes! These special capes were gifts to the Minecraft community in honor of this milestone.
One 15th-anniversary cape, the Purple Heart cape, was available if you watched Minecraft streams on Twitch with enabled drops. Another, the MCC cape, was gained by completing challenges during a special Minecraft Championship mini-game event. And then there’s the Creaking cape, which we’ll discuss soon.
This year’s anniversary capes proved popular. The “C” cape was claimed by over a million players. It stands as the second most common cape. The Vanilla cape follows, with over 500,000 owners. The 15th anniversary celebrated widely!
Creaking Cape (Eyeblossom Cape/Mojang Office Cape): The Office Party Exclusive
The Creaking Cape, shrouded in mystery, is also called the Eyeblossom Cape or Mojang Office Cape. To obtain this unique cape, players had to participate in the “Eerie Mojang Office Party” event in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. The event lasted from December 9th to December 20th, 2024.
To get this cape, launch Bedrock Edition, hit “Join Event,” navigate to Mojang Office, then finish five daily challenges from a bulletin board. Completing five daily tasks during the event gives the Eyeblossom Cape to your Java account too. You just need the same Microsoft account for both versions.
Sadly, the party is over. The “Eerie Mojang Office Party” event ended on December 20th, 2024, which means this cape can’t be obtained anymore. It was a limited-time celebration, and the favors are now gone. Unless time travel happens?
Cherry Blossom Cape: A Vote of Fandom
The Cherry Blossom cape rewarded participants in the 2023 Minecraft Mob Vote during Minecraft Live. Your participation in voting was the key to potentially receiving this beautiful pink cape in both editions.
However, similar to real cherry blossoms, its availability was brief. After the 2023 Mob Vote, Mojang stated they can no longer grant it. If you voted and received it, congratulations! You now have a rare and lovely cape. If not, there’s always next year’s vote… and next year’s cape.
MCC (Minecraft Championship) Cape: Champion’s Swag
The MCC 15th-anniversary cape was another gift from the celebration, tied to the Minecraft Championship (MCC). To earn this cape, complete 15 challenges during the MCC Championship mini-game event on Bedrock Edition. The event ran from July 22nd to August 5th, 2024.
These challenges involved mini-games and tasks within the MCC server. Completing all 15 earned the cape for both versions before the deadline on August 5th, 2024. If they don’t bring back the MCC event, this cape is part of the “unobtainable vault.”
The MCC cape is rare, with fewer than 50,000 owners. Spot someone with this cape? They have exceptional Minecraft mini-game skills.
OptiFine Cape: Donate for Drip

For $10, you can get an OptiFine cape. OptiFine is a mod that optimizes Minecraft and adds cape support.

Pan Cape: Pancake Power!
The Pan cape is for all Bedrock Edition players. You find it in the ‘Capes’ tab of the dressing room. When paired with an elytra, you can fly great distances! The Pan cape looks like a pancake with toppings. This cape is free and fun for everyone.
Purple Heart Cape: Twitch Time-Limited Treasure
The Purple Heart cape was given out for a Twitch event during the 15th anniversary. Players watched streams for 15 minutes to earn a code. Redeem the code for the purple heart-adorned cape.
Time-limited means you must act quickly. The redemption period for codes ended on June 30, 2024. As of March 18, 2025, these codes are expired. The Purple Heart cape is no longer obtainable. Missed it? Wait for the next anniversary!
Redeeming Cape Codes: Decoding the Digits
For capes from events like the Minecraft Experience, you get a code. To use these codes, you need a valid Microsoft account. After attending an event like Minecraft Experience, you’d receive a 25-digit code. You have about 60 days after the event ends to redeem it.
Rarest of the Rare: The Cape Hall of Fame
What are the rarest Minecraft capes? The Bacon Cape is arguably the rarest. Notch gave it to player “mclee” for inspiring the zombie pigman. It was removed due to too many requests for personal capes.
Other rare contenders include:
- Minecon Capes: Older ones, like Minecon 2011, required attendance, making them limited.
- Millionth Customer Cape: This was given to “acroman1,” Minecraft’s millionth customer. Only one exists!
- Turtle Cape: Given to “Billy K underscore” for suggesting turtles. One of a kind.
- Valentine’s Day Cape: This cape was available for only a short time and then disappeared.
- Danny B-Style Cape: This was a personalized cape for the composer Danny B-Style.
- MCC (Minecraft Championship) Capes: Some are rare due to limited availability.
The Cherry Blossom cape is often noted as rare among non-Minecon caps. Over 150,000 players own it. Compared to the Migrator cape with over 4 million owners, it is rare but not as exclusive as personalized or early Minecon capes.
Soar in Style!
Here’s a guide to Minecraft capes! They come from historical Minecon events and time-limited exclusives. Capes aren’t just cosmetics; they represent honor and participation. Whether you have a Migrator cape or attended an event, wear it proudly! Practice with elytra first, and check guides online for flying tips.
