Is the Traveler’s Twin Actually the Bad Guy in Genshin Impact? Let’s Dive Deep

So, you’re exploring Teyvat, battling hilichurls. Suddenly a thought strikes: “Is my twin the villain in Genshin Impact?” This question leaps around the community. It’s valid. Let’s explore this dramatic sibling situation.

The Twin Dilemma: Aether or Lumine – Villain or Just Misunderstood?

First off, let’s discuss the twin in Abyss Order robes. Whether you chose Aether or Lumine, the other twin becomes the less cooperative sibling. The game labels them a major antagonist. The official lore calls them the “Princess/Prince of the Abyss Order,” a primary baddie. Family drama!

But is it black and white? Is Aether evil in Abyss robes? Or is Lumine the real mastermind in your game? Some fans see Lumine as “cold” and “evil”, while Aether shows “quiet sadness.” It’s all about perspective. Maybe your twin is just going through a long Abyss phase.

Why the Dark Side? Theories on the Twin’s Turn to the Abyss

What drove our once-united twins apart? The game hints at a significant moment. After the celestial chaos that separated you, your sibling woke up early and toured Teyvat with Dainsleif. Sounds like a nightmare road trip.

Here’s where it gets tricky. Somewhere along their travels, the twin had an awakening. This “truth” led them to the Abyss Order. Is it “join ’em if you can’t beat ’em”? Or do they believe in the Abyss Order’s cause? Speculation continues.

Adding to the mystery is Lumine’s change. She’s no longer the cheerful twin we first saw. Now she wields a dark energy sword, which clearly screams villain. Cheery smiles are out; dark swords are in. Sibling rivalry escalates.

The Awkward Family Reunion: “We Will Be Reunited” Quest

Fast forward to your adventures in Mondstadt and Liyue. You finally reunite with your twin in the quest “We Will Be Reunited.” Expectations soar, but then… disappointment? It’s not a heartwarming hug.

You meet the twin, not an illusion or doppelganger. But instead of joy, they say, “Not now.” They refuse to join you, focusing on their “goals with the Abyss Order.” Oh right, and a slight “vendetta against the divine.” Sounds like my family dinner with existential angst.

The reunion is emotional. Your sibling shows longing. They may want to return home someday, but their Abyss mission takes precedence. They disappear again, leaving you with more questions and hilichurl masks. Sibling goals.

Beyond the Twins: Other Potential Big Bads in Teyvat

Honestly, Genshin Impact has no shortage of villains. The twin drama is substantial, but there are other contenders for the title of “Arch-Nemesis of Teyvat.”

First, the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles, the Unknown God, also known as “the God.” Remember that lady who kicked you out of Teyvat? She’s considered the puppet master behind it all. If anyone deserves a complaint, it’s her.

Then there’s Tsaritsa, Cryo Archon and ruler of Snezhnaya. She’s scheming with the Fatui to collect gnosis. Is she evil? This is a hot topic among fans. Is she a misunderstood revolutionary or just another power-hungry leader? The jury is still out on her intentions.

Paimon: Emergency Food or Secret Antagonist? The Betrayal Theories

Let’s not overlook Paimon, our ever-hungry companion. She guides you and translates for you. But could she have a darker side?

A theory suggests Paimon is actually the Unknown God in disguise! Their similar hairstyles often serve as “evidence.” It seems a stretch, but in Genshin, anything can happen, can’t it? This speculation leads to scenarios where Paimon betrays you at a crucial moment.

However, there’s no in-game evidence to support this betrayal theory. Paimon shows loyalty to the Traveler. She cheers you on and reminds you of dinner breaks. While entertaining, it seems more likely that Paimon is just… Paimon. A loyal friend.

The Traveler’s Dark Side? Are We the Real Sadists All Along?

Now for some reflection. Are we players of the Traveler innocent? One user claims “The Traveler is a sadist,” saying we take pleasure in tormenting victims. Ouch! Is there truth here? We battle monsters and exploit weaknesses. Are we virtual sadists?

Probably not. We fight mostly in self-defense or to protect others. Plus, those hilichurls can be annoying. Maybe it’s about gathering resources and exploring. Perhaps we should take time to appreciate nature and pet a boar sometimes.

Twin Showdown: Aether vs. Lumine – Who’s “Better”?

Finally, which twin is supreme: Aether or Lumine? Gameplay-wise, they are nearly identical. It boils down to personal choice. Do you like Aether’s design or Lumine’s? Who do you wish to see interact with your favorite characters?

There are minor statistical differences. Lumine has a faster charged attack, while Aether’s runs slower. Aether climbs faster, but Lumine swims better. Choose based on your traversal style: land adventurer (Aether) or aquatic explorer (Lumine)? No judgment here.

Canonically, Genshin promotes Aether as the “official” Traveler. But both twins are valid choices. Mihoyo has stated there’s no right or wrong twin. Lore-wise, Aether is older. In the Chinese dub, he calls Lumine “younger sister” while she calls him “older brother.” Aether gets bragging rights.

Ultimately, whether you view your twin as evil or misunderstood, their story is compelling. It’s about family, betrayal, and conflicting beliefs wrapped in a beautifully rendered RPG. So, keep exploring and questioning. Maybe we will unravel the truth behind the Traveler’s twin in the narrative of Genshin Impact.
