What is Soft Pity in Genshin Impact?
Soft Pity in Genshin Impact
Soft pity is triggered when players make a certain number of wishes without obtaining a 5-star. Specifically, it starts when you reach 70 to 80 pulls. The rate of getting a 5-star increases more and more as you reach 80, and is usually when you get a 5-star character.
Essentially, the soft pity system is the assurance of obtaining a 5-star item slightly before the actual pity count. For instance, if the pity count for a banner is 90, players can obtain the 5-star character at around 75 wishes due to this system.
According to some research by the community, the soft pity for permanent and event-exclusive characters starts at 74 wishes. With each unsuccessful attempt afterwards, the chances of getting the 5-star character increase significantly until it hits 100% on the 90th wish. Similarly, the soft pity count for the weapons banner starts at 65 wishes and increases significantly after 70 tries.
To clarify, soft pity will begin to kick in around 75 pulls, where each subsequent pull increases the chances of pulling an S-rank character. Soft pity lasts from pulls 74 until 89, where each pull will have an additional 6% chance compared to the previous pull—starting with the 74th pull at approximately 6.6%, and progressing to a 100% chance on the 90th wish.
Hard Pity
Your account starts with a 50/50 chance of pulling the featured 5-star character of the banner you’re currently pulling on. Hard pity, on the other hand, is guaranteed at 90 wishes.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the Standard Banner requires Acquaint Fate instead of the Intertwined Fates used for the Rate-Up Limited Event or Weapon Banners.
How Does Soft Pity Compare to Hard Pity?
The two main types of Pity in Genshin Impact are Hard Pity and Soft Pity.
- Hard Pity:
- When a player is guaranteed to get a 5-star character.
- This occurs on the 87th Wish.
- For Stellar Wrap, the hard pity is set at 90 pulls.
- Soft Pity:
- This provides an increased chance of obtaining a 5-star character.
- Soft Pity begins at 74 pulls.
- The probability of getting the featured item starts increasing around 60-70 pulls.
- Soft Pity resets if a player obtains a 5-star character, regardless of which 5-star character it is.
- It drastically increases your chances at a 5-star without guaranteeing one until the hard pity threshold is reached.
In summary, while Soft Pity increases the likelihood of pulling a 5-star character, it does not guarantee it until the Hard Pity threshold is reached.
Understanding the 50/50 Mechanic in Genshin’s Pity System
The 50/50 mechanic in Genshin Impact is a crucial aspect of the game’s Gacha system, particularly for limited character banners. Here’s a detailed explanation:
- Pity System Overview: The Pity System is a Gacha feature in Wish Banners in Genshin Impact. If you roll 9 times in a banner and don’t get a 4-star or a 5-star, your 10th roll will be a guaranteed 4-star or higher. The same applies to the 5-star pity; if by your 89th wish (79th for weapon banner), you still haven’t received a 5-star, your next wish is guaranteed to be 5-star.
- Understanding the 50/50 Chance: The 50/50 system refers to the 50% chance of getting the featured 5-star character when pulling in a limited character banner. When you pull in any Limited Character Banner without a guarantee, you have a 50/50 chance of getting the featured 5-Star character. When you get a 4-star or 5-star drop, there’s a 50% chance it will either be a featured character or weapon in the limited banner, or a standard character or weapon. If you didn’t receive the featured weapon or character and instead got the standard or off-rated item or unit, it is then guaranteed that your next 4-star or 5-star drop will be the featured character or weapon.
- Sequential Drops and Guarantee: If you do a 10 roll on a banner and receive multiple 5-star characters or weapons, the last 5-star you receive will determine if your next 5-star will have a 50/50 chance or be a guaranteed featured character. For example, in a single 10 roll, if you get both Hu Tao (featured) and Qiqi (permanent), and Hu Tao appeared first followed by Qiqi, your next 5-star will be guaranteed to be the featured character.
- Capturing Radiance Mechanic: Capturing Radiance is a new Wish Mechanic introduced in Version 5.0. Players have a chance of triggering Capturing Radiance when they are not guaranteed while pulling for a 5-Star Character in the limited character banners. When you pull in any Limited Character Banner without guarantee, after losing the 50/50, there will be a small chance to trigger Capturing Radiance. If you trigger Capturing Radiance, the 5-Star Character you win in the wish banner will be the limited character, turning it into a win! Capturing Radiance does not affect your existing pity or any guaranteed pulls. If you pull in a banner and lose the 50/50, your next 5-Star Character will be guaranteed, and Capturing Radiance will not be triggered.
