Alright, Genshin fans, get ready. We’re exploring the icy realm of Cryo and the fiery depths of Pyro in Genshin Impact. We’ll cover character comparisons, team builds, and why some characters are adored while others are left behind, perhaps quite literally.

Cryo Clash: Kaeya vs. Chongyun

Let’s start with a heated debate: Kaeya or Chongyun—who’s the better Cryo swordsman? The suave Cavalry Captain or the stoic exorcist? This is a classic showdown.

Many fans support Kaeya, saying he’s underrated. They make a valid point; he’s a starter character, often used for early-game exploration and not given a chance to shine later. However, Kaeya can be a strong Cryo option. He’s that hidden gem that surprises everyone.

Chongyun, however, is often a topic of discussion in the community. He’s the cool exorcist with a claymore, channeling Cryo energy like no other. The question isn’t who is better; it’s about team composition. A Swiss Army knife has different uses than a scalpel—each serves its purpose.

Chongyun vs. Bennett: The Comparison

Now, let’s add a twist: Chongyun versus Bennett. “Is Chongyun better than Bennett?” someone asked. Comparing these two is like ice cream versus fire. They serve different roles. Bennett is the king of Pyro support and healing, always providing buffs and heals. Chongyun specializes in Cryo applications, especially useful for Freeze teams.

Claiming Chongyun is “better” than Bennett misses the point. It’s like asking if a fridge is superior to an oven. They are effective in different scenarios. Bennett fits many team dynamics, while Chongyun shines in Cryo-focused strategies.

Chongyun: The Coolest 4-Star?

Let’s examine Chongyun more closely. Is he a good 4-star character? Absolutely! He stands out in Genshin’s diverse roster. He may not reach the top of DPS charts alongside 5-stars, but he offers unique skills.

Is he a main DPS or a Sub-DPS? He’s a mix of both, but not at the very top level. Calling him a main DPS is tricky for late-game players and specific builds. He can become a DPS or a sub-DPS but isn’t overwhelmingly strong in either role. Think jack-of-all-trades, master of Cryo enabling.

Chongyun excels as a Cryo enabler and Burst support, especially within Freeze teams. He constantly applies Cryo to enemies, freezing them effectively. His Elemental Skill enhances attacks with Cryo, setting up Freeze reactions, while his Burst delivers Cryo damage, useful for finishing foes.

Chongyun thrives in Freeze teams, benefiting from Cryo Resonance and the 4-piece Blizzard Strayer set to boost Crit Rate. Characters like Ayaka or Ganyu paired with Hydro users like Xingqiu can make him shine. Chongyun amplifies Freeze reactions effectively.

A fun fact? Chongyun mains are rare in co-op gameplay. It’s like spotting a unicorn. Why? He lacks flashy skills, and his strengths require knowledge beyond just damage numbers. A Chongyun in co-op is precious for unleashing Freeze combos.

Chongyun’s Building Blueprint

Let’s analyze building Chongyun effectively. What stats matter? He primarily scales off Attack (ATK). So, boosting his ATK and Cryo DMG% will enhance his damage greatly.

Elemental Mastery (EM) isn’t his main stat but can matter when aiming for Melt reactions. Pair him with a Pyro character for boosted Melt damage, and EM adds flavor to the mix.

Energy Recharge (ER) is crucial too. His Elemental Burst significantly impacts his damage output. You want to activate it often. Sufficient Energy Recharge fuels his Cryo abilities and keeps him effective.

Crit Rate and Crit Damage are key multipliers for great damage output. They enhance Chongyun’s damage potential greatly, especially in damage builds. A good Crit Rate to Crit Damage ratio is essential for consistent critical hits.

For artifacts, use ATK Sands, Cryo DMG% Goblet, and a Crit Rate/Crit Damage Circlet. This covers the standard DPS artifact setup. ATK Sands raise his base damage, the Goblet enhances Cryo damage, and the Circlet balances Crit ratios. Prioritize Substats like Crit Rate, Crit Damage, ATK%, and Energy Recharge.

Chongyun needs around 130-140% ER, depending on your team setup. This amount ensures he can burst off cooldown effectively. In a team with another Cryo character or energy generators, you may require slightly less ER.

Chongyun uses Shivada Jade for his Ascension Materials. These are essential elemental gems for upgrading him. You acquire Shivada Jade by defeating Cryo bosses like Regisvines and Hypostases. Gear up for some farming if you plan to maximize Chongyun.

Team Tactics: Best Partners

Team setup makes characters shine in Genshin Impact, and Chongyun is no different. He serves as Sub-DPS, Cryo enabler, and Melt trigger. He adds consistent Cryo application and supports reactions effectively.

Good partners for Chongyun include Xiangling. She’s a powerful Pyro enabler and Melt trigger, contributing to Pyro Resonance. Pairing Chongyun’s Cryo with Xiangling’s Pyro creates high-damage Melt strategies.

combo of ice and fire.

Xingqiu is a Hydro enabler. He triggers Vaporize. His consistent Hydro application with Chongyun’s Cryo causes perma-Freeze, immobilizing enemies. This makes them easy targets for damage dealers. It’s a very effective combination.

Bennett provides good Pyro support. He works well with Chongyun, but differently than Xiangling. Bennett offers healing, ATK buffs, and Pyro Resonance. While he doesn’t enable Melt for Chongyun as well as Xiangling, his buffs and healing help any team. Pyro Resonance increases team damage, which is beneficial.

Fischl, the Electro princess, can work with Chongyun. However, she has less direct synergy than the Pyro and Hydro characters. Fischl provides off-field Electro damage and supports Superconduct reactions. Still, other characters may give more immediate benefits.

Now, let’s discuss characters that don’t suit Chongyun. Razor, the Electro claymore user, is not a good match. Using Chongyun to create Superconduct with Razor may backfire. Superconduct is easy to trigger, but Chongyun’s Cryo can reduce Razor’s Physical damage focus. Razor wants to deal Physical damage.

Unpacking Chongyun’s Arsenal: Abilities and Talents

Let’s explore Chongyun’s abilities and talents. For Chongyun, it’s best to prioritize his Elemental Skill. It creates the Cryo field that enables attacks and is central to his role. This Skill is vital for his Cryo capabilities.

His Elemental Burst is important too, but the Skill should come first. It remains the key source of Cryo application and utility. Leveling his Burst boosts damage but the Skill’s utility enhances overall performance significantly.

Now let’s discuss his Elemental Burst. It unleashes a series of AoE Cryo blades. This ability deals Cryo damage while applying Cryo to enemies. It’s efficient for burst damage, especially with buffs or reactions to enhance its effectiveness.

Chongyun’s Constellations can also improve performance. His C1 buffs Normal Attacks. At C1, Chongyun releases three ice blades after his Normal Attack combo, increasing damage. C2 is a support constellation, reducing cooldowns of skills used within his Elemental Skill field. This aids team rotations.

Finally, we must address C6 Bennett. C6 Bennett is infamous for his Pyro infusion override. When he uses his Elemental Burst, he infuses melee characters around him with Pyro. The order of infusion is Pyro > Cryo > Electro.

C6 Bennett can override Chongyun’s Cryo infusion. Occasionally, it may shift Chongyun’s attacks to Pyro instead of Cryo. This can hamper some team compositions that rely on Chongyun’s Cryo. However, this issue happens rarely. It’s an annoyance for Chongyun but not as damaging as other cases.

Chongyun: Lore, Personality, and Popsicles – The Exorcist’s Tale

Chongyun has an interesting backstory. He was born with excess yang energy, making him an effective exorcist in Liyue. This means he has never seen a spirit, as they flee his presence. It’s a twist for an exorcist.

Though he appears stoic, his friends disagree. He remains positive due to his excess energy. A beacon of positivity, he is reserved and composed yet cheerful.

His quirk is overheating. When he overheats, he loses control and seems intoxicated by his own power. This trait adds depth to his character.

And then there are the popsicles. For Chongyun, they are vital. He needs popsicles to suppress his pure-yang spirit. This quirky need gives more charm to his character. An exorcist, serious about his work, needs icy treats to stay in control.

Friendships and Family Ties: Chongyun’s Inner Circle

Let’s look at Chongyun’s relationships. His closest friend is Xingqiu. Their bond is strong, with the Genshin Impact fandom even calling them “Xingyun.” They are often inseparable in discussions and fan works. Chongyun found a true friend in Xingqiu.

Chongyun also links to another Cryo character: Shenhe. She is his maternal aunt. This family connection adds depth to their stories in the Genshin universe. Players enjoy discovering these character ties.

Bennett: The Unluckiest, Luckiest, Best Pyro Support in Teyvat

Let’s pivot to Bennett, team leader known for bad luck but also strong support. Many consider Bennett the best character in Genshin Impact. Why do players believe this?

Bennett shines with his first constellation (C1), which removes HP restrictions on his Elemental Burst’s ATK buff. Even without constellations, his Elemental Burst ensures he remains a top-tier support character.

Bennett is often viewed as the best Pyro support. His Elemental Burst provides healing, ATK buffs, and Pyro application all together. It offers versatility and value for many team compositions.

His Burst is the core of his support role. It provides a large ATK buff scaling off Bennett’s base attack. Only Bennett’s inherent ATK and his weapon’s base ATK contribute to the buff, not ATK% from artifacts.

Should you level Bennett to 90? This is often debated. Leveling increases his base ATK slightly, which affects the buff strength. However, resources needed to elevate him from 80 to 90 are significant.

For Bennett, leveling to 90 brings marginal gains compared to resource investments. Generally, resources matter more when leveling other characters or improving artifacts. Leveling him is a luxury rather than a necessity for many players.

C6 Bennett: Blessing or Curse? The Pyro Infusion Dilemma

C6 Bennett generates much discussion in the Genshin community. Activating his C6 constellation infuses melee characters within his Burst’s area with Pyro, causing controversy.

With C6, Bennett may clash with specific team comps, especially those dependent on certain elemental reactions. The Pyro infusion disrupts setups for those relying on other elemental infusions or Physical damage.

The main issue is that his Pyro infusion can replace other elemental infusions on melee characters’ weapons. This makes it hard to trigger Elemental Reactions as weapons become infused with Pyro. For teams relying on Vaporize or Melt reactions with Childe or Ayaka, this infusion can block these responses.

A debate continues over whether C6 Bennett negatively impacts team dynamics or not.

Some players think that Childe’s Hydro application and Vaporize reactions suffer. Others believe he still performs well and gains advantages based on scenarios. The impact on Childe varies. It’s about specific rotations and styles of play.

Why does C6 Bennett get criticism? It’s more about concern than hate. The Pyro weapon infusion changes team dynamics. It affects elemental interactions. For players who prefer flexibility, C6 can feel restrictive in different team setups.

Yet, some players like C6 Bennett. In teams focusing on Pyro or where infusion doesn’t disrupt much, C6 Bennett is helpful. It allows for Pyro-focused strategies. It is not entirely negative but limits versatility. Choosing to use C6 Bennett depends on personal playstyle and team strategy.

Kaeya: The Cavalry Captain’s Secrets

Now, let’s discuss Kaeya, the underestimated Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius. When upgrading Kaeya’s abilities, focus on Elemental Burst first. Then, upgrade Elemental Skill, followed by Normal Attack. His Burst is key for off-field Cryo damage and application. It is his strongest ability. His Skill serves for Cryo application and energy gain. However, Normal Attacks aren’t usually a priority unless playing as Physical DPS, which is rare.

Kaeya excels in quick attacks. He is a Cryo sword user with fast strikes and nimble movements. This speed comes with lower raw damage. Thus, he works better as Cryo support than as a main DPS or crowd control. He provides reliable Cryo application instead of brute strength.

Now, let’s look at Kaeya’s lore. Fans see his flirty lines after battling Dvalin remain the same, regardless of Traveler’s twin choice. This has led to thoughts about Kaeya’s bisexuality. His flirts with Sara and Albedo support this idea. It’s an intriguing character angle. He’s a skilled fighter and a playful charmer, engaging with everyone.

So, that’s a look into Chongyun, Bennett, and Kaeya. This overview covers their strengths, weaknesses, quirks, and team combinations. Now, go explore these characters. And don’t forget to give Chongyun a popsicle break occasionally.
