Gaming Shards: Your Go-To Guide for Collecting These Precious Pixels
Grinding away in your favorite game? Hunting shards? You’re not alone. Shards are everywhere in gaming. They serve as quest items, crafting components, or even in-game currency. They are the tiny building blocks of your gaming adventures. Let’s explore the world of shards and how to collect them.
Genshin Impact Shards: Ice, Ice, Baby (and Bones)
Genshin Impact, the open-world RPG, features a variety of shards, some cold to the touch.
Entropic Shards: Breaking the Ice (Literally)
Want to shatter ice in Genshin? Target Entropic Shards. Get ready for chilly puzzles. Elemental reactions are your best friend.
Your shard hunt starts at Campus Ridge. Seek out pesky Ice Shards hiding in the area.
Starglow Cavern’s Icy Grip
Starglow Cavern can be tricky. To deal with ice here, you’ll need a scavenger hunt for Scarlet Quartz. You can find them on the ground nearby. Grab one and attack the ice. Use fire damage to chip away at it. Swords or fire magic can help too.
Hilichurl Camps and Floating Platforms
Hilichurls, our troublesome pals. Their camp hides another Scarlet Quartz for smashing. Break it and glide to a floating platform. From there, attack or shoot the third shard. Boom! All shards thawed. Puzzle solved.
“In the Mountains” Quest Shards: Location, Location, Location
Stuck on “In the Mountains” quest? Not to worry. Here are shard locations:
- Shard 1: Snow Covered Path, North East of the mountain. Simple.
- Shard 2: West of the mountain, between Wyrmrest Valley and Entombed City Outskirts. Find the icy circle puzzle.
- Shard 3: Mountain center, deep within Starglow Cavern. Prepare for a descent.

Defeat any of these enemies to claim Fragile Bone Shards. Happy hunting!
Other Game Shards: Branching Out Beyond Genshin
Shards do not belong only to Genshin Impact. Other games have shards too, each with unique acquisition methods.
Diablo 4: Shard of Agony – Painfully Acquired
Diablo 4 introduces the Shard of Agony. Getting this shard is specific. Face Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint in the Hall of the Penitent on Torment difficulty.
The player who summons Grigoire will receive the shard. Choose your summoner well. To summon him, loot five Living Steel from Tortured Gift of Living Steel chests in Helltides. Defeat Grigoire to receive your shard.
But there’s more! You’ll need two Shards of Agony and two Mucus-Slick Eggs to summon Duriel. Defeat Varshan beneath the Tree of Whispers on Torment world tier for those eggs. Your recipe requires other items: Gurgling Head, Blackened Femur, Trembling Hand, and a Malignant Heart.
Minecraft: Echo Shards – Deep Dark Secrets
Minecraft’s Echo Shards come from venturing into the Deep Dark biome. Look for treasure in Ancient Cities guarded by Wardens. Sneak through ruins for a chance to find a chest with an Echo Shard.
Ancient Cities are exclusive to the Deep Dark biome, deep below in the Overworld. Dig down to Y: -52 for best results.
Remnant 2: Corrupted Shards – Aberration Domination
Corrupted Shards remain tied to Aberrations in Remnant 2. Defeating Aberrations guarantees a shard drop, especially during Aberration Domination seasonal event, where they appear more frequently.
Want to farm them? Run an Apocalypse Adventure – this increases aberration spawns. Seek Water Tile Sets with Drones near red stones for quick escapes or returns. Eliminate all drones but one and damage it slightly. This triggers reinforcements. A loud sound means bigger reinforcements or a mini-boss could join.
Draconic Evolution: Chaos Shards – Guardian Takedown
In Draconic Evolution, the Chaos Shard is end-game material. Break a Chaos Crystal by defeating a Chaos Guardian on a Chaos Island. It sounds chaotic. But you can buy Chaos Shards from General Merchants found in major cities, a safer route.
Dauntless: Tragic Echo – Crowing Achievement
Dauntless simplifies unlocking Tragic Echo. Spot a jump jet and glide to find a crow marking the node for unlocking. Then visit Lady Luck to finalize it. Sometimes, exploration and an eye for birds unlock valuable shards.
Other Types of Shards: A Grab Bag of Goodies
Let’s wrap our shard exploration with notable shards across different games.
Cyberpunk 2077: Shards – Data Diving
Shards in Cyberpunk 2077 focus less on combat and more on lore. Find drops around the city, take a drop down, and collect data shards for reading story bits and secrets. Consider it digital archaeology.
Earth Shards – Zombie Loot
Earth Shards boast a rare 1% drop rate from Super Tank Zombies lurking in Catacombs between Floors IV-VII. Grind the undead for chance at these treasures.
Spooky Shards – Headless Horseman’s Haul
Spooky Shards drop from the Headless Horseman boss. Defeat this pumpkin-headed foe to claim your spooky rewards.
Marble Shards – Cave Crawling
Marble Shards appear in node or item form in Anthills and early-game caves. They suit those new to crafting and seeking attractive building materials.
Quartzite Shards – Hammer Time
Harvesting Quartzite requires brute force. Use a Black Ox Hammer to smash and grab Quartzite like a miner.
Pieces of Shards – Event Rewards
Pieces of Shards usually come from event rewards or Battle Crates. Watch for in-game events and open crates for shard fragments.
The shard journey spans the gaming universe. Whether smashing ice in Genshin, battling in Diablo, or digging deep in Minecraft, shards await collection. Happy hunting!
