The Ratio of Male to Female Characters in Genshin Impact: Insights and Comparisons
The male to female character ratio in Genshin Impact is approximately 1:2 since the game’s inception. Specifically, there are 20 male playable characters and 40 female playable characters. This results in a gender ratio of 1:2.
As of the current update (3.3), the total number of playable characters includes 39 female characters and 20 male characters. Therefore, the overall gender distribution shows there are 60 playable characters in Genshin, with females almost twice as numerous as males.
Notably, the addition of Chiori has increased the count of female characters to 49. Including Lumine brings the total to 50 female characters.
Furthermore, there is significant interest among users regarding the distribution of 4-star and 5-star characters. They are eager for more detailed breakdowns.
Some players express a desire for the inclusion of more male characters, suggesting the addition of ‘himbo’ characters for variety.
Users have also highlighted the prevalence of female filler characters in the game. They acknowledge an overall balance, noting that Genshin Impact contains more male characters compared to typical gacha games. However, there are critiques about certain biases, such as those related to Celestia.
Additionally, it is observed that Anemo and Geo are the only elements where male characters outnumber female characters. Coincidentally, the Anemo and Geo archons are both male. Dendro is also expected to become male-dominant with the upcoming additions of Baizhu and Kaveh.
Fan Perspectives: Why Male Characters Matter in Genshin Impact
One of the most important things in Genshin Impact (if not the most one) are the characters. There are plenty of characters: women, men, kids, gods, goddesses… But today, we’re just going to talk about the best male characters! Yes, we know female characters are amazing, but male characters deserve our attention today.
- Xiao is an Adeptus, whose original name is Alatus, and the only known remaining member of the five Yakshas dispatched by Morax (or Zhongli). He resides in Wangshu Inn and loves food. He’s an Anemo Polearm character and his role is DPS. Xiao is also one of the best Genshin Impact’s DPS, alongside Hu Tao, Ayaka, or Ganyu.
- Zhongli is the Geo Archon and the consultant of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. He works alongside Hu Tao, two characters that charmed our hearts since the first time. When you hold Zhongli’s Elemental Skill, it creates a shield that absorbs DMG based on Zhongli’s Mx HP.
- Kaeya is the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius. The first time you meet him is in the Prologue, Act I: The Outlander Who Caught the Wind. He’s sarcastic but kind, two characteristics that charmed us the first time we saw him.
Is Genshin Impact catering to both its male and female playerbase? This begs the question…
The Current Roster: As of version 5.1, there is currently a roster of 89 playable characters in the game, with 30 of them being male characters. This gives us a male to female ratio of around 1:2, which has remained consistent since the game’s release.
There has been much complaint over the abundance of female playable characters, especially when new female limited units are released back to back with the occasional male five star chucked in here and there. Some have argued that it is because the average man earns more than the average woman, and most have claimed that the otaku community is mainly made up of men.
At the end of the day, Miyoho prefers releasing waifus over husbandos, and the whales of Genshin seem to agree. Let’s just say, as a heterosexual female Genshin player myself, I would love to have more husbandos in my collection.
Yet, it seems like the rest of the female cast have been exempted from such laws. This fact has become even more apparent with the release of the newest region, Natlan, and their predominantly female cast members. Their designs have become significantly more bold, with female characters wearing clothing that emphasizes certain assets, if not barely covering anything.
She is proof that a female character doesn’t need to be sexualized to be loved. Not to say that Mihoyo as a company is ignorant of their female players, as evidenced by their Tears of Themis franchise, but they should also consider implementing a more balanced ratio of male to female characters in Genshin Impact.
Fans worry that this trend will only get worse in the coming updates. I noticed that in Genshin, aside from archons, male characters are always the more end game plot relevant. For instance, you have Albedo who is Gold’s ‘son’, Kaeya who is a Khanreiah prince, Childe who is tied to the Fontaine prophecy and abyss, Neuvillette who is a hydro sovereign, possibly Wanderer, and etc.
The male characters of Genshin Impact bring depth, strength, and unique playstyles to the game. From their powerful elemental abilities to their captivating personalities, each hero offers a different experience for players. Whether you prefer the might of Diluc’s fire, the elegance of Zhongli’s Geo manipulation, or the versatility of others.
Finally, the uproar over the lack of male characters in Genshin Impact reflects the community’s desire for more diverse and inclusive character representation in the game. As players eagerly await new character reveals, speculations and discussions on potential male additions continue to fuel excitement and anticipation among fans.
