Unearthing the Past: Your Hilarious Guide to Fossils in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Ever tripped over a star-shaped crack in the ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Well, congratulations, you’ve found prehistoric treasure! We’re talking fossils, those relics of old that beg to be dug up and displayed… or sold for Bells. Let’s dive into fossils!

Fossil Frenzy: The Basics

Let’s talk numbers. There’s a whole museum wing for fossils. Prepare to collect. There are over 70 fossils in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That’s 73 unique fossils, to be exact. Among those, 35 belong to multi-piece dinosaur skeletons. You’ll dig up skulls, torsos, and tails. The other 14 are standalone fossils.

Now, how many of these beauties can you find each day? The answer is four. Four fossil spots pop up daily somewhere on your island. If you see more than four star-shaped cracks, you missed some yesterday or took a break from island life. Don’t stress; fossils await your return.

Missed a day of digging? No problem! Fossils are persistent. If you didn’t unearth all four yesterday, they’ll roll over and join the new batch today. You could log in to five, six, or even more fossil spots. Think of it as a fossil fiesta! But remember, only four new ones spawn daily; the rest are stragglers.

So, what’s the point of this fossil fuss? Besides satisfying your inner paleontologist, fossils help out in two key ways. You can donate them to Blathers at the museum, adding to his collection. Or, if you’re feeling capitalist, assessed fossils rake in Bells. Digging up fossils isn’t just educational; it’s economically smart!

Donate to the Delightfully Ornery Owl: Blathers and the Museum

If you’re a veteran in Animal Crossing, you know the golden rule: donate the first of everything to Blathers! The museum is your Hall of Fame for island discoveries. Donating lets your finds shine for all to admire (including you). Plus, it tracks your progress. It’s a checklist of items you’ve collected or dug up.

A warning about Blathers: he has peculiar phobias. After 15 donations, he’ll raise a feathered hand and declare a donation moratorium. He needs to expand into a full museum for your collection. But don’t worry; he’ll still assess your fossils during construction. Even an owl terrified of bugs loves a good dinosaur bone.

Speaking of bugs, let’s talk about Blathers’ unique trait. For a scholar, he has an aversion to insects. His entomophobia is his not-so-secret shame, and he’ll announce his disgust every time you donate a bug. It’s quite the show! Blathers is quirky, making museum donations entertaining. Did you know his birthday is September 24? His favorite saying? “A pearl of wisdom is worth more than a diamond.” Deep!

Fossil Fortune: Selling Your Prehistoric Prizes

Now, let’s talk Bells. Donating to the museum is noble, but sometimes you need to pay off Tom Nook’s home loan. Selling fossils is handy for this. Prices at Nook’s Cranny vary widely. You can earn between 1000 Bells to 6000 Bells per fossil. Knowing your fossils and their worth helps you out! (No need to memorize a price list, but look for bigger skeletons – they’re pricier).

Pro-tip: always get Blathers to assess your fossils before selling. Assessed fossils fetch a higher price than unassessed ones. Think of it as a professional appraisal before selling. Unassessed fossils are mysteries; assessed ones are treasures. Timmy and Tommy will reward you for the extra effort. The price difference can range from hundreds to thousands of Bells. Definitely worth it!

Duplicate Dinosaurs: Sharing the Prehistoric Love

You’ll start accumulating duplicates as you become a fossil-finding fiend. Don’t despair! Duplicate fossils aren’t useless lumps of rock. They are opportunities for generosity. You can offer extras to friends or other players online. Imagine helping someone complete a T-Rex skeleton! Sharing is caring, and in Animal Crossing, it builds friendships.

The Fossil Hall of Fame: Most Valuable Finds

Time for the nitty-gritty: which fossils will make you rich? Here’s a countdown of the top 8 most valuable fossils:

  1. T. Rex Skull – 6,000 Bells
  2. Brachio Skull – 6,000 Bells
  3. Tricera Skull – 5,500 Bells
  4. Brachio Chest – 5,500 Bells
  5. Dimetrodon Skull – 5,500 Bells
  6. Brachio Tail – 5,500 Bells
  7. Right Megalo Side – 5,500 Bells
  8. T. Rex Torso – 5,500 Bells

Notice a pattern? Skulls and T-Rex parts rule the fossil market. Aim for maximum Bells, and watch for star-shaped cracks! Pray to the fossil gods for a T-Rex Skull!

Rare Relics: Amber-Preserved Wonders

While all fossils are relics, some are more special. Keep an eye out for “Amber-Preserved Dinosaurs.” These smaller fossils encased in amber show delicate details of ancient creatures. They might feature tiny feathered dinosaurs or fossilized plant parts. Consider them the crème de la crème of your collection – fascinating and likely valuable!

Beyond Bones: Rocks and Gyroids (Because Why Not?)

Fossils are stars, but don’t forget about other treasures! Your island holds six rocks. They aren’t just decoration. Hit them with a shovel (carefully!) and receive stone, clay, iron nuggets, and gold nuggets! These materials are essential for crafting DIY recipes, making rock-smashing a daily ritual for islanders. Who knows what you might uncover!

Lastly, there are gyroids! These quirky dancing figurines add to your collection in New Horizons. There are 36 unique gyroids to find, each with its own charm.

They have a distinct look and sound. They aren’t fossils. They are treasures for your island décor. Watching them dance to music is fun. Think of them as the funky, musical cousins of fossils.

Museum on the Move

You can move the museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But only after Resident Services has become a proper building. Relocating Blathers’ place costs 10,000 Bells. This is a small price for perfect placement. You can arrange your island layout and put the museum in a strategic spot!

Remember when you needed to get Blathers to your island? You had to give five critters to Tom Nook. That was how you got him to come. Once you gave those first five critters, Tom Nook is done. Your bug and fish donations go straight to Blathers. Tom Nook is a businessman. He manages loans and develops islands. Leave the field to the owl.

That’s your humorous guide to fossils in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now grab your shovel. Go unearth some wonders! Happy digging!
