How to Utilize Glowing Fragments in Remnant: From the Ashes
Overview of Glowing Fragments
Glowing Fragments are a brand new material introduced to Remnant: From the Ashes with the Swamps of Corsus DLC. This new material is used to purchase armor skins from a new vendor in Ward 13. Each piece of armor costs 10 or more Glowing Fragments, with some costing 25. It’s certainly not cheap. However, while this is expensive at first, with enough time in Survival Mode, you should have enough for a full set of your preferred style.
Sources of Glowing Fragments
- Glowing Fragments are dropped by certain enemies in Survival Mode or in the Hard and Nightmare difficulties of the Campaign and Adventure modes.
- The best option is to go into Survival Mode and play through on Normal. This makes it far easier to farm Glowing Fragments than struggling through on Hard or Nightmare in the other two modes.
- These fragments are limited to powerful enemies found throughout the dungeons and main areas. Bosses, on the other hand, are guaranteed to drop one.
Farming Glowing Fragments
Farming Glowing Fragments and using them to buy armor will be the main focus for many players in Remnant: From the Ashes. Being able to utilize a set of armor for its perks, while rocking the awesome aesthetic of another, is great.
The easiest way to farm glowing fragments is to do Earth adventures on hard, assuming your character’s level is high enough. Each run nets you 8 fragments (3 from the dungeon boss, 5 from the world boss). On normal, playing to 5 bosses gets you about 20 Glowing Fragments. This takes about 2-3 hours. You can farm 25 glowing fragments from the Fetid Pools dungeon every 3 minutes.
Using Glowing Fragments
Gamers can use Glowing Fragments as currency by speaking to Whispers, who is in Ward 13. The NPC sells dozens of different armor skins for a steep price. Speak to Whispers next to the Root Mother at Ward 13 and use glowing fragments to purchase alternative Armor Skins. Glowing Fragments are used to purchase armor skins, which go over your normal armor so you can retain your stats but look different.
Advanced Farming Method
If you happen to get the trophy for killing 10 trophies in a row before you purchase 40 armor skins, you can obtain the rest of the Glowing Fragments needed more easily than playing Survival or Campaign/Adventure on harder difficulties. Roll the Adventure on Corsus until you reach a dungeon called Fetid Pools (the bad luck protection will ensure it won’t take that long to find it). Once there, try to find the Rusted Amulet. With it, you can now return to the checkpoint from the beginning of the dungeon and exit your game. Save your game on the cloud or in a USB flash drive. Restore the save, but only choosing the World Save.
With that done, go back into the dungeon and you will notice the Rusted Amulet will still be there, with a spare in your inventory. Don’t pick the second one— instead, go to one of the acid pools located in a large area of the dungeon and crouch inside it with the amulet equipped. In a few seconds, it will turn into the Acid Cleaned Key, which is necessary to open one of the gates at the end of the dungeon. At the top of the stairs, to the right, will be a locked gate containing 25 Glowing Fragments.
After you do the method above, leave the door opened without picking up the fragments, that way you can quit the game, save your game and keep restoring it without the need to pick up the keys every time, making it much faster.
Additional Note
You can, in principle, get fragments on hard difficulty and above through regular campaign play if you own the DLC, but the drop rates are very low. The higher the difficulty, the better the drop rate. They don’t drop on normal as far as I know.
Best Strategies for Acquiring Glowing Fragments
The best strategies for acquiring Glowing Fragments include:
- Traveling to the Fetid Pool dungeon in Corsus and activating a Cryptolith Sigil.
- Farming in Survival mode, which is highly effective. On normal difficulty, defeating 5 bosses nets about 20 Glowing Fragments in roughly 2-3 hours.
- Farming 25 Glowing Fragments from the Fetid Pools dungeon every 3 minutes, provided that players do not pick up the fragments immediately after opening both doors.
- Re-rolling Adventure Mode on Corsus while stocking around 100 adrenaline is recommended. Players should teleport to the world and run straight forward to maximize their chances.
- Defeating bosses in Survival Mode or during Campaign/Adventure Mode on Hard, Nightmare, and Apocalypse difficulties also yields Glowing Fragments, with increased drops at higher settings.
Top Tips for Spending Glowing Fragments Wisely
To spend Glowing Fragments wisely and use them effectively, consider the following tips:
- Prioritize Usage: Your best bet after the festival will be to use them, give them away, or sell them quickly. The life span may become as short as an hour or so.
- Glowing Iron Fragment Uses:
- These fragments are utilized to charge the god totem, which you receive by praying to your god at Holy Festival 392.
- If a fragment is applied to a capped totem, there is a chance to gain a level 1 RPA bonus.
- Traders and Casting:
- Traders can invoke the glowing iron fragment while holding it to refill their starlight aura. This action will exhaust the fragment’s stellar energy and reduce it to an iron fragment.
- If held during casting, the fragment enhances Phelim’s Sanction and Starlight Sphere but will accelerate the rate of decay.
- Safety Precautions:
- If handled without hand armor, fragments can cause minor hand and skin wounds due to the extreme cold.
- Handling many fragments in the same sack may result in minor eye injuries from looking into the sack.
- Attempting to eat or lick the fragment will cause internal head wounds and a skin rash.
- For ‘Remnant: From the Ashes’:
- To use Glowing Fragments effectively, prioritize unlocking character skins and weapon skins that enhance your playstyle or aesthetics.
- Focus on skins that provide practical benefits, such as increased damage or improved survivability.
- Key Points to Remember:
- Consider your playstyle: Choose skins that align with your preferred strategies, whether aggressive, defensive, or balanced.
- Unlock tiers: Begin with skins for primary weapons and armor, then move to less frequently used items.
- Check benefits: Read the descriptions of each skin to understand bonuses like visual effects and stat boosts.
- Don’t waste on unnecessary skins: Avoid unlocking purely cosmetic skins unless you genuinely like them, as Glowing Fragments are a valuable resource.
Exploring Glowing Fragment Uses in Survival Mode
In Remnant: From the Ashes, Glowing Fragments serve as a new currency introduced with the Swamps of Corsus DLC. They allow players to purchase new armor skins from a vendor in Ward 13.
Glowing Fragments are dropped by enemies primarily in Survival Mode, as well as in Hard and Nightmare difficulties of the standard Campaign and Adventure Modes. However, players may find it more advantageous to engage in Survival Mode on Normal difficulty for easier farming.
It is important to note that not all enemies will drop Glowing Fragments. Only bosses and Elite enemies drop them. Elite enemies possess more health and their unique movesets require more finesse to defeat compared to standard enemies.
The most effective way to farm Glowing Fragments is by playing in Survival Mode. Even at Normal difficulty, players can accumulate a significant number of fragments without facing the tougher foes associated with higher difficulties.
Once players have acquired enough Glowing Fragments, they can visit Ward 13 to meet a new NPC called Whispers. Through Whispers, players can purchase Armor Skins, which cost both Credits and Glowing Fragments. Prices for Armor Skins vary, typically ranging from 10 to 20 Glowing Fragments.
In addition to purchasing armor skins, Glowing Fragments can be used to craft items such as the Hero’s Sword and the Adventurer Goggles. Players can acquire these fragments by exploring Survival Mode and defeating bosses.
To access Survival Mode, activate the World Stone at Ward 13. On Normal difficulty, defeating about 5 bosses can yield approximately 20 Glowing Fragments in about 2-3 hours.
In conclusion, Glowing Fragments are not only necessary for purchasing armor skins but also crucial for crafting specific items. They can be effectively farmed in Survival Mode through challenges and by defeating Elite enemies and bosses.
