- Zhongli – Has the sturdiest shield out of all characters. Debuffs enemies when the shield is active. C2 gives instant shield on Burst use.
- Thoma – Sturdy shields that can reapply itself. Can apply Pyro on-hit. Constellations improve his performance as a shielder.
- Layla – Shield is semi-permanent due to low cooldowns and energy cost. Can apply off-field Cryo on-hit.
- Diona – Low cooldown for shielding. Can upgrade own shield by holding Elemental Skill. Can also heal allies.
- Kirara – Shield can refresh. Can tank Bloom Core DMG as it mitigates Dendro DMG the most.
- Baizhu – Decent shields that refresh over time throughout the duration of the burst. Can act as a mini-interruption resistance.
- Noelle – Elemental Skill provides a sturdy shield. Can create shields through Crystallize. Can also heal allies while under her shield.
- Xinyan – Has three levels of shield hardness. Periodically applies pyro for the max level shield. C2 gives instant shield on Burst use.
- Yanfei – C4 gives a sturdy Pyro shield on Burst use. Can only shield with Constellations.
- Yun Jin – Elemental Skill can briefly shield herself to parry attacks. Can create shields through Crystallize.
- Beidou – Elemental Skill can briefly shield herself to parry attacks. C1 gives a shield on Burst use that will last even when switched.
- Kaeya – C4 gives a shield when Kaeya falls under 20% HP. Can only shield himself.
Shield characters are Supports that have the ability to create protective barriers against most instances of damage. These shields also provide protection and resistance to interruption. A Geo character can also create protective barriers with the Crystallize reaction.
There are 16 Talents that match the category selection for generating shields. Some notable characters are:
- Kirara – ‘Bewitching, Betwitching Tails’ can create shields with stacks of Reinforced Packaging.
- Thoma – ‘Blazing Blessing’ talent summons a defensive barrier.
- Noelle – Can summon protective stone armor with ‘Breastplate’.
Zhongli creates a Jade Shield with the ‘Dominus Lapidis’ skill, absorbing DMG based on his Max HP. Diona uses ‘Icy Paws’ to form a shield that scales on her Max HP, while Layla’s ‘Nights of Formal Focus’ creates a shield that can absorb Cryo DMG effectively.
Zhongli is the character with the best shielding capabilities in Genshin Impact. He’s the Geo Archon of Liyue and not only does his skill apply a team-wide shield, but it also debuffs enemies.
Diona is the bartender of Cat’s Tail and comes with a couple of tricks to keep your health up, one of which is a shield. Her Elemental Skill Icy Paws, either on Press or on Hold, releases Icy Paws, 2 or 5 respectively.
Layla is one of the newer shielding characters and she has an outstanding uptime of Elemental Burst and a powerful shield.
