Level Up Your Genshin Game: A No-Nonsense Guide to Character Progression

So, you’re exploring Teyvat. Your Traveler looks underwhelming? It happens. Leveling up characters in Genshin Impact can feel endless. Don’t worry, adventurer. This guide is straight to the point. Make your team strong like a Ruin Guard on espresso.

Talent Tango: Books You’ll Need

Let’s discuss talents. These skills are crucial. They transform characters from zero to hero. Want your favorite character to hit hard? Then acquire Talent Books. Each character has a favorite series. Think of it as their preferred story, but much more useful.

Here’s the Talent Book list for some popular characters:

  • Arlecchino: Requires “Order” books. She values order, right? Collect these for Arlecchino’s talent ascension.
  • Ayaka: The frosty princess loves “Elegance” books. For Ayaka, Elegance is essential.
  • Diluc: The Darknight Hero seeks “Resistance” books. Fitting for his resistant personality.
  • Fischl: Oz’s bestie prefers “Ballad” books. Maybe she is crafting her own tales?
  • Hu Tao: This mischievous undertaker needs “Diligence” books. Someone must be diligent in the afterlife.
  • Kaeya: The charming cavalry captain also loves “Ballad” books. Perhaps he and Fischl can start a club. Kaeya, from Mondstadt, finds his Ballad books at Forsaken Rift domain. They are available Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
  • Klee: The Spark Knight needs “Freedom” books. Explosions and freedom make a great combo. Klee uses Freedom books and scrolls for her upgrades.
  • Raiden Shogun: The Electro Archon requires “Light” books. Makes sense for someone who is basically lightning.
  • Scaramouche (Wanderer): The reformed Wanderer seeks “Praxis” books. He now aims to put things into practice. To fully ascend his talents, Praxis books are vital.
  • Venti: The Anemo Archon loves “Ballad” books. Bard-like, wouldn’t you say? His materials include Ballad books from the Forsaken Rift.
  • Xiao: The Vigilant Yaksha craves “Prosperity” books. Maybe he hopes for a prosperous future after his demon-slaying days. Prosperity books are essential for his talent ascension.
  • Yelan: The enigmatic Yelan also favors “Prosperity” books. Maybe she and Xiao share investment tips? Yelan’s journey involves Prosperity books and battling Azhdaha weekly.

Where to find these treasures? Domains are your best chance! The Forsaken Rift domain in Mondstadt is ideal for Ballad, Resistance, and Freedom books on different days. Raiden needs Light books, Ayaka thrives on Elegance, Yelan and Xiao need Prosperity, Scaramouche wants Praxis, Hu Tao is diligent with Diligence, Arlecchino requires Order, and Klee needs Freedom. Remember it? Good.

Talent Leveling 101: From Zero to Hero (Almost)

You have your books now. Let’s boost those talents! Combat talents usually max out at level 10 but constellations can push some to level 13. You can’t go beyond 10 without constellations. The game won’t allow it. Click here for more details on the Genshin Impact Wiki on Talent Level Increase.

Talent Book Math (Math Time!):

To max out ONE talent from level 1 to 10, you need:

  • 3 green “Teachings of” books
  • 21 blue “Guide to” books
  • 38 purple “Philosophies of” books
  • And add in 6 weekly boss materials and 1 Crown of Insight for that extra effect.

Repeat this for all three talents, and you will gather materials quickly.

Character Leveling: The Road to 90 (and Beyond?)

Leveling characters is another climb. From level 80 to 90, you’ll use about 171 Hero’s Wits. That’s a ton of experience! And Mora? Brace yourself. Each character needs over two million Mora to reach level 90. That’s before touching talents! Leveling talents? Be ready to pay another 1.6 million Mora PER talent to hit level 10. The Mora drain is real.

Level 90: Is It Worth the Hype?

The big question: Is reaching level 90 worth it? The answer is complicated. That last push to 80/90 provides a boost to innate substats and unlocks talent levels 9 and 10. Learn if leveling up to 80 or 90 is worth it on Genshin Impact Wiki.

Level 90: The “Yes, Please” Club:

  • Kazuha: Want swirling devastation? Level 90 Kazuha is essential for maximizing Swirl damage and Elemental Reactions.
  • Characters in Transformative Reaction Teams: Think teams built around reactions like Swirl, Electro-Charged, and Overloaded. Level 90 gives them a significant damage boost. Chasca is also in this club, benefiting from level 90 teamwork.
  • Noelle: Need a DEF-stacking tank? Level 90 Noelle boosts her Base DEF. She becomes immovable.

Level 90: “Meh, Maybe Later” Club:

  • Most DPS Characters: Leveling from 80 to 90 gives a small boost to base attack—only about 15 points. For most DPS characters, resources might be better spent elsewhere.

Boss Material Bonanza

Leveling and talents demand boss materials from normal bosses and weekly domains. Shenhe, for instance, requires drops from Primo Geovishaps, Coral Defenders, Cryo Hypostasis, and weekly boss materials from Narukami Island: Tenshukaku. A lot of traveling for loot! Need more character material info? Check IGN’s guide for Kamisato Ayaka Materials for help in material hunting.

The Wanderer (Scaramouche) needs Daka’s Bell from his Joururi Workshop domain. Heizou? He seeks Runic Fangs from the Ruin Serpent in the Chasm—also a target for Yelan and Kuki Shinobu. Remember, Yelan needs drops from Azhdaha weekly alongside those Prosperity books.

You have it now! Your guide to leveling up Genshin Impact characters without losing your mind completely. Go forth, farm those books, defeat those bosses, and let Teyvat tremble before your might! Or just enjoy the view. Leveling is a marathon not a sprint. Unless you are in the Spiral Abyss clock race. Then sprint a little.
