So, You Just Defeated Lady Butterfly in Sekiro? Let’s Talk About What’s Next.

Congratulations, Ashina Shinobi! You defeated Lady Butterfly. That old lady and her kunai were tough, right? Now that you sent her off, you might wonder, “What did I actually get from that fight?” And “Where do I go next?” Fear not. We will cover your rewards, meaning, and next steps.

Spoils of War: What Lady Butterfly Graciously (Not Really) Leaves Behind

Defeating any boss in Sekiro is a reward. However, Lady Butterfly is generous with the loot. Here’s what you just unlocked:

  • Memory: Lady Butterfly: Think of this as bragging rights. This Memory helps you relive the fight and boosts your attack power. Plus, it opens a brand new area. More places to explore, right?
  • Sakura Droplet: This droplet grants the Young Lord one more chance to cheat death. A “get out of jail free” card for actual death. Use it wisely; they are rare.
  • Phantom Kunai: Remember those annoying phantom butterflies? Now you can throw them back! This is an upgrade for your Loaded Shuriken prosthetic tool. Talk about poetic justice.
  • XP: Boss fights give you experience points to level up. You’ll need every bit of it for what comes next.

Hirata Estate: Is That All Folks?

You might think, “Right, I’m done with Hirata Estate?” Hold on. Lady Butterfly concludes the memory sequence, but Hirata Estate isn’t finished. Let’s clarify a few things:

  • Not the End of Hirata Estate: Lady Butterfly concludes that memory. But Hirata Estate isn’t fully wrapped up. It’s a closed chapter, not the entire book.
  • Optional Area Alert! Hirata Estate is an optional area. Crazy, right? You could miss it completely. But skip the swordplay? Why?
  • Back to the Beginning (Sort Of): To trigger the fight, head back to the Dilapidated Temple. Talk with the Sculptor. He’ll hint you can offer something at the Buddha nearby. Interact and select “Pray,” and *poof*, memory lane!
  • First Boss Gateway Drug: Shinobi Hunter Enshin of Misen is the first mini-boss you’ll meet in Hirata Estate. He serves as a warm-up act for the main event.
  • Secret Temple at the Back: The temple where you face Lady Butterfly is tucked away at the back of Hirata Estate. If you feel you’ve explored enough, push deeper. The butterflies are waiting.

Lady Butterfly Herself: More Than Just a Pretty Face (And Kunai)

Lady Butterfly isn’t just a random boss. She plays a crucial role. Here’s why her fight matters:

  • Optional… But Not Really: You can postpone Lady Butterfly initially, but she is key for game progression. Face her sooner rather than later. Procrastination is a shinobi’s worst enemy.
  • Rhythm is Gonna Get You: Struggling with combat? Lady Butterfly teaches the game’s mechanics. Fighting her early helps master deflects and aggressive offense. Think of her as a personal, albeit homicidal tutor.
  • Two Phases, Double the Fun (Or Pain): Like many bosses, Lady Butterfly has two distinct phases. Just when you think you have her figured out, BAM! Phase two illusions. Why not?
  • Dodge and Weave, Baby: Want to make Lady Butterfly cry? Dodge and counter-attack. Simply keep dodging her attacks, then punish her openings. It’s easy. (Don’t tell her I said that).
  • Snap Seeds: Illusion Begone! Phase two illusions driving you crazy? Snap Seeds are your answer. Use them when her ghostly soldiers show up, and watch them vanish. It’s ghost repellent.

Unraveling the Yarn: Story and Characters Post-Butterfly

You’ve defeated Lady Butterfly and earned your rewards, but the story continues. Here come revelations and betrayals:

  • Owl Did It! That flashback to Hirata Estate? Turns out Owl stabbed Sekiro during that night. Yes, your adoptive father, the one who trained you. Family drama.
  • Betrayal for Power: Why did Owl betray you and the Ashina Clan? Power. He plotted to seize control. Ambition mixes poorly with giant swords.
  • Ashina Castle Beckons: With Lady Butterfly beaten and Hirata Estate explored, it’s time for bigger challenges. Move toward Ashina Castle. Your next major obstacle? Genichiro Ashina.

Endings, Bosses, and the Road Ahead: It Only Gets Wilder

Lady Butterfly is just the beginning. Sekiro has multiple endings and tough bosses ahead. Here’s what awaits you:

  • Shura Ending: The “Bad” Trip: There’s a “Shura” ending, often called the “bad” ending. It’s the shortest path and easiest to achieve, but not a happy ending for anyone.
  • Owl (Father): Daddy Issues Intensify: Remember Owl? You might have to fight him again in another memory (yes, there’s more!) if you want the Purification ending.
  • Dragon’s Return Ending: Serpent Snack Time: Want the Dragon’s Return ending? Collect unique items. Feed the Divine Child both Dried and Fresh Serpent Viscera. Yes, guts.
  • Isshin, the Sword Saint: The Secret Final Boss? Just when you think it’s over, BAM! Isshin, the Sword Saint appears from Genichiro. He’s one of the toughest challenges.
  • Genichiro: The Unavoidable Wall: You’ll fight Genichiro multiple times. His “Way of Tomoe” form is not optional for most endings. He’s a gatekeeper to the final boss gauntlet.

So, there you have it. Lady Butterfly defeated, but your journey is far from over. Sekiro is just starting, and trust me, the butterflies are merely for training. Now go forth, Shinobi, and face whatever challenges follow. And stock up on Snap Seeds. You never know when illusions might strike again.
